Dental Hygiene Assessment
Before completing your cleaning, it is important that a thorough exam of both your teeth and oral tissues be completed by your dental hygienist. This exam will also include oral cancer screening.

Though Dental Hygienists cannot diagnose tooth decay, we can make you aware of any suspicious lesions and you can seek diagnosis and treatment from a dentist of your choosing.

Scaling/Debridement
This is the actual act of cleaning the teeth. Scaling AKA 'debridement' can be completed with hand instruments and by way of ultrasonic.
Scaling intervals vary depending on a client's oral and overall health. In many cases, it is recommended that clients have a cleaning done every 6 months. However, your hygienist may recommend a more frequent interval such as every 3 or 4 months if you have underlying systemic conditions, gingivitis, periodontal disease or if you have a tendency to accumulate tartar quickly.

Polishing/Stain Removal
Polishing removes extrinsic stain (surface stains) from enamel. It can also help further remove plaque after the scaling has been completed.
It has a gritty consistency, we have mint, cherry or flavourless options available to choose from during your visit.
Fluoride Varnish Application
Fluoride treatments are intended to help remineralize your teeth. Ultimately, it is used to strengthen tooth enamel, prevent cavities and reduce sensitivity.

The effects of in-office fluoride treatments can last up to 6 months. Some clients may opt to have this done once or twice a year, depending on their susceptibility to tooth decay.

Oral Health Education
Based on the findings from your dental hygiene assessment, we can review different aids, products and techniques to help maintain optimal oral health.
